'“Every 92 seconds another American is sexually assaulted (1).” Due their inability to defend themselves or simply being uninformed about how serious this issue is, more and more women are becoming victim to sexual violence and the rape rate in the United States has gone up. Due to this, "59% of women who ever walked down an alley alone always or often feel unsafe doing so (2)." The solution is developing a company that not only provides accessible but affordable, weekly self-defense classes, as well as pair each customer with their own ‘buddy’ to call when they feel like they are in an uncomfortable situation. Through large community advertisements and promotion on social media we can make our company known. Working with each customer individually, we can make personalized payment plans that work for them. I believe that the Buddy System is a crucial part to this idea because if you are alone but on the phone with someone or in communication with them in some way, you are less likely to be targeted by a predator. Even in the worst case scenario, there would be someone that knows you're in a bad situation and could call for help. Webster Merriam's phrase synonym for together is "at peace". No one should ever have to live their life in fear, afraid to going out by themselves in case that 'something might happen.' Our goal is to teach you what to do and how to defend yourself from acts of sexual violence and act as your security blanket when you are out with friends or on your own.'

Your video is great. Hearing stories about sexual assault infuriates me. There was recently a student/aid from UF that attempted to rape a student. The judge let him go because he is a "high achieving student". What sort of message does this send to other so-called "high achieving students"? That as long as you're smart, you can get away with raping a woman? What I think, is that anyone convicted of rape should be sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison. No leniency, no early release, no b.s. Just nice classic, cold, smelly prison. Any child rapist should be sentenced to execution. Why hold onto these bad apples? They do not give any good to society. Rather, they harm society. Let's protect everybody by filtering through these animals.
ReplyDeleteAside from my tangent, your pitch is a great idea, but to what extent does this self defense cover? Is it only hand-to-hand combat, or would the company also train in pepper spray?
I think what could also be a great idea is that anybody that has been convicted of a violent offense and has been released after serving their time should have their income taxes raised just to go towards government funded programs to provide free training to women. Keep it up, your ideas are awesome, and it is something that I am personally passionate about. Same with the other guy with his vertical garden idea, and the other girl with the gun control stuff.
